Writing Workshop Celebration!

We published our How To writing today!  We celebrated alongside Mrs. Giannattasio's class, sharing our work together and complimenting one another.  See the photos below.  We learned so much in this unit!  I will be sending your child's final piece home next week.  As always, please send it back so I can add it to your child's writing portfolio.

In this unit we learned that "How To" writing:

  • has a title explaining the topic
  • gives detailed steps across many pages with illustrations
  • illustrations often have diagrams with labels
  • includes a list of materials needed
  • includes elaboration techniques such as bold words for important vocabulary or "Don't forget...!" or "Watch out...!" sentences
  • has a fun ending
Look for some (or all) of these traits in your child's piece when it comes home, and make sure to tell your child that you notice them!

Tomorrow we'll be beginning our next nonfiction piece... All About Books!
