In this unit we learned that "How To" writing:
- has a title explaining the topic
- gives detailed steps across many pages with illustrations
- illustrations often have diagrams with labels
- includes a list of materials needed
- includes elaboration techniques such as bold words for important vocabulary or "Don't forget...!" or "Watch out...!" sentences
- has a fun ending
Look for some (or all) of these traits in your child's piece when it comes home, and make sure to tell your child that you notice them!
Tomorrow we'll be beginning our next nonfiction piece... All About Books!
