Beach Day!

Your child is coming home with many things today!  We played catch with a beach ball and then made beach balls of our own, on which we wrote about our favorite K memory.  We also read There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell and made our own "lady" who can swallow things!  Look for it in your child's bag today and ask your child to retell the tale.  Lastly, we read outside on our towels, in the sunshine, with sunglasses, like true beach-goers!

From our Leadership League...

Our last spirit day of this year will be Flag Day on  Tuesday, June 14th.

We hope everyone shows their patriot spirit by wearing red, white, and blue.

Newsletter 6/10/16

In reading and writing lessons, we are working on preparing our summer journals.  These journals help us make a plan for the summer.  Where and when will we read?  What kind of stories?  What time of day?  What topics might you study?  These will come home next Wednesday.

We had a great visit with the first grade teachers who hinted at some of the fun things we’ll learn next year.  Then we hit the field and worked on our athletic and sportsmanship skills.  We were tug-o-war champions!   Thank you for the water and popsicles, Mrs. Barber and Mrs. Schwarz!

We did everything the pirate way today!  We found hidden math booty, made treasure maps and walked the plank!

Take us out to the ballgame!  We wrote about baseball players, completed bat and mitt phonics sheets and baseball subtraction, too!  Then we made bats and everyone on Team Henry autographed them.

Happy Camp Day!  We imagined packing up for a camping trip and then we made flashlights!  During reading workshop, we read a camping poem and then used our flashlights to read to our stuffed animals!

Please send in a pack (or more!) of baby wipes next week.  We’re getting ready for Wipe Out Day!

First Grade and Field Day Fun

What a great day we had today!  First, the First Grade team talked to our whole grade about all the wonderful stuff we'll be doing next year.  Then, we hit the field for some fun!
Pirate Day is tomorrow!  If you don't have any "piratey" clothes, don't worry.  All students will be leaving school with a pirate gift.  Also, if you have a pirate book that we can enjoy tomorrow, label it with your child's name and send it in!

Newsletter 6/3/16

We wrapped up our last unit of study in Writing Workshop this week, editing our persuasive pieces and celebrating all of our hard work.  Please check your child’s backpack today for his/her piece and a note explaining all that we learned in this unit.

There were so many special events this Thursday.  We enjoyed the school chorus, band and orchestra in their show this morning.  Then Shakespeare on the Sound came to teach us about Hamlet!  If you haven’t been to one of these productions in Rowayton’s Pinkney Park, you must check it out.  What’s better than an evening picnic with Shakespeare under the stars?!

All of our ladybugs are now adults!  It was fun watching them mature and letting them go after our wedding!

Of course we focused on Q and U this week!  We read QU books and wrote QU words.  We made a quilt using addition and read about Little Quack’s adventures.  We nominated one another for our wedding roles and made our letter headbands.  What a great ceremony and reception!  I am so proud of our whole alphabet!  Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped, too.  Best Wishes Q and U! J

Please check your pink Theme Day sheet for special activities next week T-F!  See you at Field Day.  Think sun!
If your child will not be in school through the last day (1/2 day on June 16th), please let me know.  We don’t want anything left in our classroom!
